Microsoft LifeCam Cinema
Designed in collaboration with Minimal | MNML.com
LifeCam Cinema was created to deliver an experience like the movies, with great high-definition video and clear sound.
However, life doesn’t happen on a movie set, and most people don’t have a lighting team in their house to make them look camera-ready.
In common indoor settings, Cinema maintains a high frame rate even in the lowest lighting, ensuring that users look well lit and that video
remains smooth. The Auto Focus feature keeps video sharp from across the room all the way up to 4 inches from the AR-coated glass
element lens and Microsoft’s ClearFrame Technology software allows for faster image processing and reduction of image noise and
graininess.
All the decisions the design team made were based on optimizing performance. The noise cancelling digital microphone was placed at
the top of the camera to allow sound to be captured from all angles and to filter out unwanted audio. The housing for the camera is made
of anodized aluminum to allow for a thin but durable wall section that protects the lens and sensor. The cylindrical form factor also says
camera lens- semantically, we wanted the ten foot read to be very clear- this is a high performance camera. Even the size and shape of the
rectangular aperture was derived scientifically-it’s the largest opening that is possible while blocking the maximum amount of stray light
from getting to the sensor. The result is a 74 degree field of view, HD lens that can capture higher contrast colors and deeper blacks.
With more people connecting with friends and family on the internet through video and most social networking sites allowing widescreen
format now, Microsoft LifeCam Cinema is the perfect companion for easily capturing and sharing HD content.
